Andrew AckermannDr Ackermann completed the B.Ch.D Degree at the University of Pretoria in 1984, with distinction, and was awarded several merit awards.

He completed the four –year Prosthodontic programme in 1988 at the University of Pretoria, achieving the M.CH.D Degree with distinction, and was awarded a merit certificate for Post-Graduate achievement.

Dr Ackermann entered specialist private practice in Sandton Johannesburg in 1990.

He maintains a special interest in dental implantology and is an active member of the American Academy of Osseointegration. He has presented papers in South Africa, England, the United States of America and Austria.

Zvi ArtziZvi Artzi is a Professor and the Director of the Graduate program in Periodontology at Tel Aviv University, Israel. Zvi is a member of the Executive Board of the School of Dental Medicine and at the Board of Governors of the University.

Zvi is an active member of the AO (The Academy of osseointegration), EAO (European association of Osseointegration), EFP (European Federation of Periodontology), IADR (The international association of dental research) and the past-president of the Israel Periodontal and Osseointegration Society. Zvi is a Fellow and the Israeli Ambassador of the AO and a member of the Osseointegration Foundation research grant committee.

Zvi has published over 100 articles and research abstracts in peer-reviewed leading journals in Periodontology and Oral Implantology.

His current main research topics are related to the quality of regeneration and osseointegration, the evidence-based efficacy of different grafting biomaterials and advancing surgical modalities.

Nicolas BoutinDr Boutin graduated with DDS from University Paris V in 2000. He graduated from SAPO IMPLANT in 2004 and has now a private and exclusively implant-based oral surgery practice in his dental clinic in Paris.

In 2008 he acquired a teaching position in implantology at the Laboratory of Functional Anatomy of the Medical School and a teaching position on the SAPO Implant team. He has also been in charge of Implant surgery at the Ambroise Pare La Providence clinic since 2009. In 2012 he was chosen to found the implantology department in TANGUIETA hospital (BENIN) in relation with the NGO Bennin Develop.

He is co-author of a textbook detailing anatomic risks as well as numerous publications in relation to immediate loading techniques.

He is currently a lecturer at national and international courses and congresses in the areas of anatomy, implant surgery and prosthetics and involved in teaching on several academic degrees. He is also a part-time lecturer at the Paris-Descartes University.

Bernard CannasDr. Cannas Bernard graduated with DDS from the University Paris V in 1978. He gained his teaching attachment in Oral Surgery in 1985 and has been in charge of Implant surgery at Marne La Vallee hospital since 1995. In 1996, he acquired a teaching position in implantology at the Laboratory of Functional Anatomy of the Medical School, where he leads studies in the surgical field of guided surgery while also maintaining an exclusively implant-based private practice.

In 1999, he co-founded SAPO Implant, a scientific company, dedicated to Continuing Education in the field of Implantology.

David HangyasiDr. Hangyási received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2007 at the University of Szeged, Faculty of Dentistry. He completed his postgraduate training and earned the degree of Specialist in Periodontology.

He runs a Private Practice in Hungary (Hódmezővásárhely) and he is also a part time lecturer at the Deparment of Periodontology at the University of Szeged since 2007. Between 2013 and 2014, he temporarily filled the position of the Acting Head of Department of Periodontology.

Since 2016, Dr. Hangyási is the Academic Contributor at University of Szeged.

Ziv MazorProf. Ziv Mazor is one of Israel’s leading periodontists. He graduated from the periodontal department at the Hadassah School for Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, where he served as a clinical instructor and lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students. Since 1993, Prof. Mazor has been engaged in clinical research in the field of Bone Augmentation and Sinus Floor Elevation. Prof. Mazor is a renowned author in dental implantology, and is known worldwide for his innovative approaches in cutting-edge procedures and technologies. He is a world known speaker and has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally.

Michael NortonDr. Michael R. Norton BDS FDS RCS(Ed) graduated from the University of Wales School of Dental Medicine in 1988. He runs a practice dedicated to implant & reconstructive dentistry in London. He is a specialist in Oral Surgery and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Dr Norton is Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.

Dr Norton is the 31st President of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO), the first non-American President in its history, and is also Past President (1999-2001) and Honorary Life Member of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI), UK.

Dr Norton is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants (JOMI) and acts as reviewer for a number of other journals.

Dr Norton maintains a worldwide reputation for his lectures and courses and is widely published in the literature.

Alessandro PozziAlessandro Pozzi has been in private practice in Rome, Italy since 1997. He was formally trained in the inter-related areas of Oral surgery and Prosthodontics.

As a researcher, he has been selected to receive the 2013 Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award in the Clinical Report Category.

Topic: Challenges in alveolar bone reconstruction

Henning SchliephakeHenning Schliephake received his training in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery from 1989 to 1996 at the in Medical University Hannover, where he also did his PhD degree on in-vivo cultivation of bone in 1995.

He became full professor and chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Georg August University in Göttingen in 2001. He has chaired several national scientific associations such as the German Association for Oral Implantology (DGI), the Association for Oral Surgery (AgKi) and the German Society of Dental Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences (DGZMK).

He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and is currently President elect of the EAO as well as a Board Member of the German Association for Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.

He is Editor in Chief of the “Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery” and is member of the editorial board of a couple of scientific journals such as Oral Oncology and the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His research foci are free flap reconstructive surgery and oral rehabilitation in head and neck oncology as well as tissue engineering, growth factors and biomaterials.

Topic: Do no harm - Is it still relevant today?

Louwrens SwartDr Swart received his dental degree in 1986 from Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa, and his master’s degree in MFOS in 1994. He has been in private practise in Cape Town since 1995, focusing on the immediate placement and if possible the immediate loading of implants.

He is an honorary consultant in the department of MFOS, University of Western Cape (UWC) on dental implants, as well as an honorary consultant to the Dean of UWC. He serves on the faculty of gIDE and is a member of various dental and MFOS societies. He is the past president of the Southern African Association of Osseointegration. He has lectured and published both nationally and internationally and has conducted several live dental implant surgeries. He has also served in the roles of moderator, presenter, commentator and expert panel member and part of the Nobel Biocare World Tours in various locations around the globe.

Dr Swart received Merit Awards for his contributions to implantology from the South African Society for Dental Implantology in 2008 and 2012.

Safa TahmasebiDr. Safa Tahmasebi Completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Biochemistry at Saint John’s University Queens New York in 2004 with a full scholarship based on academic performance.

In 2005 he joined State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine where he attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery and qualified as a Dentist in 2009. He Joined the Albert Einstein Medical hospital of Montefiore in Bronx New York where he completed one-year hospital dentistry fellowship.

In 2013 he completed three and half year full time training in prosthodontics and surgical training with a masters degree in prosthodontics at the West Virginia University School of dentistry. During this time He was an adjunct clinical instructor to the undergraduate programs at the WVU University.

In 2013 he joined the SameDay Dental implants BrånemarkOsseointegration Center (BOC) Dubai as a full time prosthodontist specializing in full mouth rehabilitation, immediate loading and Smile reconstruction.

James TaylorJames undertook his dental school studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, and his post-graduate training in prosthodontics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He went on to complete a Master of Arts degree in leadership at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC, and is also a graduate of both the Canadian Armed Forces’ Advanced Military Studies and National Security Studies programs.

An AO Member since 1993 and Fellow since 2000, James became a member of the AO Board of Directors in 2009. While he has served the AO in a number of capacities, his areas of focus have been AO globalization and governance. Working through the AO’s Global Program Development Committee, he led the development of AO’s formal relationship with the FDI World Dental Federation, which led to AO’s Affiliate Membership in FDI and annual engagement in both FDI’s World Dental Congress and Global Continuing Education Program. He also led the development of AO’s engagement in the global and regional congresses of the International Association of Dental Research. James currently serves as AO’s Ambassador to both the FDI and IADR.
